Jeff and Cathy Coffin
“20 years ago Cathy and I were married standing outside at the lake shore on a beautiful fall day with about 80 friends and relatives. Cathy loved to dance, for me, not so much, actually not at all. But I made a promise that if it was important to her that I would learn to dance. Moving ahead 13 years, still not dancing. Cathy bought an introductory 4-lesson package from Arthur Murray Dance Center of Gaithersburg for my birthday. I was not exactly ecstatic about this and one year later we took the four lessons (just as it was about to expire). During that time we got to meet and watch the teachers and students at Arthur Murray Dance Studio of Gaithersburg. At the end of our last lesson I said that I would learn to dance if she would commit to stick with it until we reached the Silver level. From my observations that is where I thought it really started to look like you know what you were doing and actually looked fun. Up to then it just looked to me to be a lot of hard work. So she agreed and there we were off and dancing (sort of). So fast-forward to the present. Last night Arthur Murray Dance Center of Gaithersburg had their Fall Medal Ball ceremony and we graduated from Bronze IV to Silver I in 15 dances (two more to add) setting a record for couples at this studio.
So for me, this is not just a graduation, rather it represents the fulfillment of a promise I made 20 years ago to Cathy.
I am now already starting to look forward to celebrating our 25th with our couples dance graduation to GOLD. Just think, 20 years together and now dancing, who would have guessed that!
Love you guys!”
How do I get started?
Getting started is easy. The first step is to schedule a complimentary introductory dance lesson and evaluation with one of our trained instructors. During this session, your instructor will determine your current dancing level and recommend an appropriate course for you to continue. Call us today to schedule your first lesson!
Can I really learn to dance?
Of course you can! Dancing is as easy as walking once you are taught how by our expert dance instructors. We teach simple, basic elements, from which the steps are derived. Hundreds and thousands of people have been successfully trained in Arthur Murray Dance Centers. There is no age limit. Several of our older students are over 70. The youngest are usually in their early teens.
How long will it take?
The length of your course will depend on how many dances you want to learn and how proficient you wish to become in each dance. However, you will be able to feel comfortable with dancing after your first lesson.
How much do lessons cost?
Tuition varies, depending on a number of factors e.g., how good you want to be, what dances you want to learn, and your dance schedule. Remember – YOUR FIRST LESSON IS A COMPLIMENTARY PRIVATE LESSON. After that lesson, your instructor will be in a better position to recommend a program and you’ll have the knowledge to make an intelligent and informed choice. There are many options available and we have something for everyone.
How will I benefit from my dancing?
Dancing is an investment in yourself. It is our first line of social activity. Good dancing is a lifetime investment in fun, poise, confidence, improved personality and new friends. Beyond these, dancing is a wonderful physical conditioner, providing fun without working at it! It opens up a great new world of togetherness and an exciting year-round social calendar!
Will I learn the latest steps?
You can learn the very latest steps in any social dance – Salsa, Swing, Hustle, Samba, Merengue, Fox Trot, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Mambo, Waltz, Tango, and others. Did you know that our dancers are trend-setters in the dance world, and that we’ve lent our style to some of the biggest movies and TV shows to come out of Hollywood, like the recent hits “Shall We Dance?” and “Dancing With The Stars”?
After I learn to dance, will I still have to return to learn the newest steps?
After getting a good foundation, you will be able to analyze the new steps and pick them up yourself without difficulty. However, many students return or continue because they enjoy their lessons and the dancing friends they’ve acquired.
When can I take lessons?
You can take your lessons any time you wish. Our studio is open Mon-Fri from 1:00 PM-10:00 PM, and Sat 10:00 AM-2:00 PM. Please call to make an appointment.
Will I have a good teacher?
Without a doubt. All our teachers must complete an arduous training regimen, making them very competent. Each teacher is able to teach beginner, intermediate and advanced students. Your teachers will be selected to best suit your particular needs and style of learning.
